How to Adjust Your Morning Routine to be More Productive at Work

Scientists from the University of Nottingham discovered that discipline and personal energy aren’t just linked but also limited resources. No matter how hard you try (or how much coffee you drink), your ability to stay focused and on-task will dwindle as the day wears on.

This depletion of discipline has serious consequences for your productivity. This makes your workday morning the most critical part of the day. That said, you shouldn’t just spend your morning working as hard as possible. Instead, you ought to be setting the stage for your energy and focus on lasting as long as possible.

Regardless of whether how you feel when you wake up, the following suggestions will allow you to optimize your morning routine and set a good tone that can carry you throughout the day.

Exercise

People who start their day with some kind of exercise report having more energy and more positivity, which are both vital to being highly productive. Exercising for just 10 minutes is enough to release a neurotransmitter called GABA soothes the brain and increase impulse control. If you’re trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, getting your daily exercise out of the way in the morning a good way to make sure it gets done.

Eat a Healthy Breakfast

Just eating something breakfast is better than trying to power through the morning on a couple cups of coffee. Those who have a morning meal establish a strong blood-sugar level that can carry them throughout the day. A good breakfast can also keep you from being hungry and snacking throughout the day. When you start with a healthy breakfast, it also supports your short-term memory and concentration.

So, what makes a healthy breakfast? Health experts say whole grains and smoothies are two great workday breakfast choices. Experts also suggest eating protein in the form of eggs and yogurt, not processed meats.

Organize

Organizing in the morning can be a pain, but research has shown that people who maintain an organized workspace are more productive than those who don’t. Getting rid of clutter will help you to stay focused and free of distractions.

Budget Your Time

A to-do list can be a helpful tool, but a standard to-do list doesn’t help you organize eight hours of work. When you include a timeframe for each item on your do-list, the exercise becomes much more effective. When you budget your time, it helps you to steer clear of procrastinating and distractions. It also enables you to figure out how to prioritize your tasks accordingly.

If you’re going to go through the trouble of making a time budget, you’ve got to use it. Periodically look at what you’ve done and what you need to do. If you’re behind, you need to reshuffle your priorities, step up your effort, or get some assistance.
